Having a solid understanding of numbers and how they relate to each other is a major part of first grade mathematics. To help us with this, we are learning what Part-Part-Whole means.
Part-Part-Whole is when we have the whole, or total number, and then we figure out what the two parts are that make up the whole number. For example, if 9 is the whole, 4 and 5 could be the two parts or 3 and 6 could be the two parts. This tells us that 4 + 5 = 9 and 9-4=5. We can learn a lot about numbers when we learn the Part-Part-Whole.
