Writing is difficult for first graders because of spelling. They have these wonderful stories and ideas to share, but they are afraid to write anything because they do not know how to spell it.
Please always encourage your child to do his/her best. We do not care about the spelling. We care about the ideas!
Here is the poster I hung in our classroom to give us tricks to spelling the words we need for our stories.

The unit we are currently working on is Personal Narratives (those small moment stories we can share). In our stories, we always write First, Next, Then, and Last. After that though, we can make our story feel finished by adding an exciting ending.
Here are a few examples I shared with the class.
