We learned a new math game today. It goes with our current math unit called "Double Decker Bus". This unit focuses on seeing numbers in different ways and understanding that the same number can be split up differently.
The game we learned today is a matching game. Each card has a different number of people on its bus. The tricky part is that these are double decker buses so two cards have the same number of people, but the people are sitting at different places on the bus. For example, two buses have ten people on them, but one bus might have 5 people upstairs and 5 people downstairs, while the other bus has 3 people upstairs and 7 people downstairs. They have the same total number, but they look different.
The class did a great job playing this game! The reason I'm most proud them is that they haven't been counting the number of people. They are looking at numbers in groups of fives and tens and doing a fabulous job!
