Room 116 is lucky to participate in the CPS zoo. We get a new animal each week. So far we have hosted a seal, which we named Navy (side note: naming a gray seal Navy brought a whole new discussion about what a Navy Seal is. It was a fun tangent!). We hosted a vulture, and now we have a giraffe. It has been fun learning about these animals through read alouds, internet research, and personal stories. Here is what the students are saying about our animals:
"Giraffes are the tallest mammals in the world. I really really like them." -Alex
"Animals should be free and live in the wild. Giraffes would be in Africa not in the zoo." -Richmon
"I love giraffes. They should be able to be free in Africa." - Vivi
"Miss Heins showed us a picture of when she was in Africa and she saw a real giraffe." -Isabelle
"Girl giraffes have hair on their horns and boy giraffes do not have hair on their horns." - Khalan
"I wonder how seals can hold their breath for so long." -Ransom
I'm excited to see which animal we get next!
